My name is Sequoia Ayala (née Bates). I am currently a JD/MA student at the American University Washington College of Law and School of International Service. My husband and I have recently relocated  to the DC metro area. With the arrival of our first child, we are excited for the opportunities that are bound to arise in such a transient place. My academic interests include International Law, Human Rights Law, African Diaspora Studies (particularly in Latin America & the Caribbean), democratic governance and participation, and social justice. My hobbies include dancing, writing, and singing.
